Carrying On

It’s that time of year again. Taxes are due and it’s crunch time at the university. Pam does the taxes (and seemingly everything else around here) and I write the papers.

Do those papers look familiar? They’re from Canada. Oh and get this. Apparently, I am a Canadian resident, but Pam isn’t. How does that work? I guess we have an interesting family. I’m a Canadian resident that doesn’t live in Canada; Pam is a Canadian American resident; and L is an American born to Canadian parents. Would anyone like to do our taxes for us?

Here Dad is saying goodbye before heading off to teach.

  1. Ahhh, the resident question, I remember it well! When Preston and I were living in California, I never knew what I should put on forms. It all depended on money (it seemed to me!). For Car and driver registration and licences, Preston and I were residents of California. We were still Canadian residents for tax purposes in Canada, but we were actually residing in the USA, and so when crossing the border we were considered US residents. Then to top everything of we were considered non-resident aliens for our USA taxes.

Preston posted about this as well on his blog “Baby Priest”. It became more confusing when he was ordained a priest and had certain connections to each country!
