Working in the Rain

Determined to get something done yesterday, I worked through the rains … all five of them. It made things muddy. The mud in our backyard is sticky, so I spent most of the day with oversized and heavy boots. At the end of the day, when my back was talking to me loudly enough for me to listen to it, I had the beams for the deck completed.

This morning, I was out there early, hoping to get in a few hours before the rain. After outlasting another short downpour, I managed to get the deck ready for the floor.

  1. Question: Are you putting another thick layer of wood on it? It seems a bit low for the doorway. Other than that, looks good. Can’t wait to see it completed.

  2. You’re observant. When it’s completed, there will be a small landing by the door. I haven’t decided yet whether it will be one or two steps. The advantage of two steps is that the top of the landing would be on the same level as the floor in the house. The disadvantage: a landing with two steps would take up more surface area on the deck than a landing with just one step.
